Hector's Dolphins and the Beautiful Harbour

Tuesday 5 February

Booked a trip on a small Cat to cruise the harbour to see the wildlife. We came across 2 pairs of Hector's dolphins which are extremely rare and endangered and only found in the South Island. They are the smallest dolphins and very shy but they swam a bit in front of the boat which was great. We also went round the shore and saw quite a few fur seals and a blue penguin plus some great rock formations and caves, a superb and very personal trip.
The banks peninsular is a beautiful area and we would have liked an extra day here.
Drove down to Timaru on the coast on the way to Dunedin to stay a night at a B+B run by John & Trish and a lovely Labrador called Ollie. Great old house and superb sunny weather all day.
