Ferry to the South Island

Friday 1 February

Disaster struck this morning. Richard's back went this morning moving the luggage around but he is ok at the moment although in a lot of pain and can't lift anything. Bit of a problem as we are getting the ferry from Wellington to Picton at 10.30am and we have a lot of luggage. Good result as we gave the taxi driver a good tip to help take all our bags to the ferry check in area, all very organised like checking in on a flight.

Superb crossing about 3 hours in perfect sunshine and stunning scenery as we go through the Sounds to Picton. Picked up by water taxi at Picton to take us out to our hotel on the Sounds about a 1/2 hour trip as only access is by boat. Arrived at this beautiful resort called Bay of Many Coves and had a 1 bedroom suite overlooking the bay with a large terrace, absoloutly wonderful. Bloody painful back. Relaxed and had a romantic dinner overlooking the Sounds.

This must be one of the most idilic locations we have been to yet.
